How to Change a PCV Valve in a Dodge Magnum
- 1). Pop open the hood of your vehicle.
- 2). Depending on the year and trim style, the hood may have hydraulic supports and will not need any further support. For all other models, a prop rod has been installed that you must lift up and set into the hood to keep it from falling.
- 3). Remove the "hemi" engine cover. On many models and engine sizes, this cover is can be removed by simply lifting it off carefully. Other models may have been screwed in and will require you to unscrew bolt with ratchet and socket set.
- 1). Locate the PCV valve once you have removed the Hemi cover. It should be plugged into a valve cover and is characterized by a rubber hosing that will connect to a 90-degree elbow
- 2). Pull out the old PCV from the valve cover and note how the valve is positioned. Pull out the valve from the hose. At this point, you may want to use the towel or rag to handle the valve as it may be coated with oil or other chemicals. This will prevent any corrosive materials from coming in contact with your skin.
- 3). Match the new PCV valve with the old one to ensure that it is the proper replacement part. Insert the new PCV valve into the hose, and reinsert it into the valve cover the same way it was previously inserted.
- 4). Ensure that the PCV valve is inserted snuggly and replace the Hemi cover. Close the hood and start your engine. Look to see if the "Check Engine" light comes on. If so, other problems may exist and should be checked by a qualified mechanic.
