How to Set Up a Tent for Weddings

    • 1). Ensure that the area where you're placing the tent is groomed and free of debris like branches and leaves. Carry the packaged rental tent with your helpers to the center of where it will be located. Unfold the tent so that it's lying flat on the ground with the exterior of the tent facing up. Separate the poles in the package: put the outer poles on each corner and side so they're easy to access when hiking the tent up.

    • 2). Assemble the ceiling of the tent first by inserting poles through loops, clips or Velcro strips provided (type of latch depends on tent). Have four helpers each stand at a corner of the tent and two more helpers along the sides that are longest to help with lifting. Count to three, and lift the tent together, place the poles on each corner.

    • 3). Each person at the corner may have to move backward or forward while holding his tent pole until the tent is a perfect rectangle. Using rope, secure the tent to the ground--push one end of rope through a loop provided on the upper tent flap and join it to the other end of the rope. Make a knot, loop it around a peg and hammer the peg into the ground until the rope is taut. Do this to each corner or side that has a pole.

    • 4). Place a large brick at each tent pole on top of the peg, and between the ropes for more weight if there are high winds. Test that each corner is secure by slightly leaning on it to see how it holds up. If there is too much movement, remove the peg, pull the rope toward you until it feels a little tighter and peg it to the ground as in step 3.
