Where are you storing your drums filled with oil and other chemicals? Anywhere there's a free spot? That could get you in trouble fast if someone trips over them or knocks them over, and they spill or leak.
Read on to discover how drum storage cabinets can get you off the hook.
Drums seem sturdy enough.
Unfortunately, they can leak and even spill.
And since they generally contain dangerous liquids, including oil, fuel, and other chemicals, a spill can have disastrous consequences.
So what if you think you can stop your drums from leaking.
Well, you can certainly reduce the likelihood of leakage by making sure you have relatively new and high quality drums, but you can't eliminate that possibility.
Instead, why not "double-bag" your drums? Why not create an extra layer of insulation between the drum and the environment.
It's not that hard.
You can use pallets, but if you want to be extra safe, you may want to go for drum storage cabinets instead.
After all, drum storage cabinets are designed to keep your drums safe not only from theft but also in the event of fire.
Imagine what would happen if there were a small fire, and all the fuel from the drum were to be added to the flames.
This could lead to an explosion.
In fact, industrial fires are frequently caused by the improper storage of flammable materials, and the vast majority of liquids likely to be in your drums are flammable.
That's why there are guidelines that specify how drums must be protected, and your drum storage cabinet will ensure you're always in compliance -- just as long as you store your drums inside those cabinets and keep the cabinet locked.
What should you look for when you're shopping for drum storage cabinets? First of all, make sure it is constructed of 18 gauge steel (unless your drums store corrosive chemicals, in which case you may want a poly cabinet).
You should also make sure that your new cabinets meet OSHA and UFC regulations.
Drum storage cabinet also are available for horizontal as well as vertical drum storage.
You can get the vertical ones in one or two drum versions, and they even have a half shelf where you can store accessories or containers.
If you're shopping for drum storage cabinets in which you plan to store hazardous materials, be sure they also include drum rollers.
They will make the drums easier to handle, thus increasing safety.
In addition, optional ramps will take this a bit further by making loading and unloading those drums a lot easier as well.
