Remedy for Severe Dry & Cracked Lips

    Water

    • Give your lips the moisture they need by drinking plenty of water every day. It is recommended that everyone drinks at least eight to 12 glasses of water each day to replenish liquid lost through normal bodily functions.

    Vitamin A

    • Add foods that are rich in vitamin A to your diet. These include tomatoes, carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes and winter squash. You can also take a daily supplement of vitamin A. Vitamin A is crucial for normal cell development and growth, including skin cells.

    Cucumbers

    • Place a few thinly sliced pieces of cucumber over your lips. Let the slices sit for a few minutes and they should help moisturize your dry lips.

    Licking Your Lips

    • Avoid the temptation to lick your dry lips. The saliva may give you some much-needed relief---but it will be only temporary. In the long run, it will only make the problem worse because saliva dries the skin, including that on your lips.

    Lip Balm

    • Apply lip balm that contains aloe vera and sunscreen. Both of these products will help protect your lips from another reason your lips became dry in the first place: the sun. Lip balm can be applied several times a day as needed to keep your lips moist.

    Smoking

    • Quit smoking. Cigarette smoke has an adverse effect on the skin and will rob it of the moisture it so desperately needs to remain healthy. This includes the skin on your lips.
