How to Lubricate the Hood/Trunk Latch in a Acura Integra

    • 1). Pop the hood of your Acura Integra and secure it. Use a clean rag to wipe away surface grime found near the hood latch.

    • 2). Examine how dirty the latch assembly is inside. You may need a flashlight to see fully inside the assembly. Pick out large pieces of debris with your fingers and then use a cloth to wipe down the assembly and the male end of the latch assembly attached to your hood.

    • 3). Treat the latch assembly for rust damage by first inspecting it for rust spots. They will appear as reddish brown to orange/brown flakes and crusting. In most cases, you'll be able to simply brush these rust deposits off with a stiff brush, but you may have to use sandpaper on fairly young rust damage.

    • 4). Spray the previously rusted areas with WD-40. This helps stop further rust spots from developing.

    • 5). Wipe away extra WD-40 and then spray the entire latch assembly with a lithium grease. Teflon (TM) White Lithium Grease is a good product to use. Lithium grease is preferred to other types of lubricants because it's non-corrosive. Make sure you spray inside the hood latch assembly as well as around the rim of the assembly.

    • 6). Move to your Acura Integra trunk or hatchback latch. If you have a hatchback, you'll will want to vacuum around the hatchback door's latch before you try to lubricate it. This helps prevent debris from falling into the latch and causing problems.

    • 7). Follow the same basic steps you took to lubricate your hood latch to lubricate your trunk or hatch latch. Wipe down the latch assembly, treat for rust, spray with WD-40, wipe away excess and then spray with a lithium grease. Activate both latches a couple of times to make sure they don't squeak or stick.
