How to Determine the Amount of Gas in a Propane Tank
- 1). Step on your scale and record your weight. Pick up your propane tank and weigh yourself holding it and record the result.
- 2). Subtract your initial weight from your weight holding the propane tank to determine the weight of your partially full propane tank.
- 3). Subtract 18 lbs. (the weight of a 20 lb. propane container) from the weight of your propane tank to determine how many pounds of propane gas are in your tank.
- 4). Divide the pounds of propane left in your tank by 20 lbs. (the amount of propane a full 20 lb. propane tank holds). Move the decimal point to the right two spaces to determine how full of gas your propane tank is.
- 5). Multiply the number of pounds left in your tank by 30 to determine how many minutes of grilling time are left in your tank.
