Marriage Separation - 3 Signs Taking a Break is What You Need

Embarking on a marriage separation is one of the most difficult things a married couple will ever do. Silently it speaks of the end of the relationship. That's because many people view a separation as the first and inevitable step towards divorce. That's not always the case though. In some instances a separation is warranted mainly because the couple desperately needs some time apart to cool down and think through what they each want for their individual and collective futures. There are some signs that a separation is what you need and you should seriously consider creating some space and distance between you and your partner if any of these things are occurring in your marriage.

The signs a marriage separation is what you need are:

You argue continuously.
Disagreements are bound to happen within a marriage. However, when those small conflicts turn into major battles that's a sign that some time apart may be in order. If a couple can't get through a conversation without it turning into an argument, there's a river of resentment running beneath the subject at hand. You can't resent someone that much and still live with them in a way that is healthy and emotionally productive. If you and your spouse argue more than you discuss, consider a trial separation.

You spend very little time together. When you love someone you want to be with them. You crave the moments you get to be together. When that shifts and you or your spouse start looking for excuses for why you can't spend time with one another, that's a bright red flag that signals that something isn't working anymore. Some couples even reach a point where they vacation apart. If that's what is occurring in your relationship, some time apart in the form of a separation is obviously going to be welcomed. It will also give you both time and space to consider the future of the marriage.

Intimacy has become non-existent. Sexless marriages come with their own set of struggles. When a couple stops being intimate the dynamic between them shifts from one of lovers to friends. Many couples find this happening and it's something they don't always recognize at first. It's a slow and emotionally painful process. Taking some time to live apart in a case like this can actually be very beneficial. It can remind the couple of how much they love their partner. Often, when you miss someone you find a lot of long lost feelings stirring up again. Intimacy can actually be better and more fulfilling after a couple has taken a break from each other.

Marriage separation is obviously a very serious matter and shouldn't be taken lightly. If you feel that you and your spouse need some time apart to reevaluate your relationship, a separation may be the best course of action for you to take.
