    • 1). Cut and fit a 1-inch-thick piece of wood on the top of the cabinet to support the countertop, using the saw. It should be fit inside the top edge of the cabinets.

    • 2). Install deck screws on an angle, using a drill and beginning at the top of the scrap wood into the side of the cabinet. Add scrap wood in this manner every 12 inches or so.

    • 3). Rub a light layer of bath and kitchen sealant on the wood strips and on the front and back lips of the cabinet frame.

    • 4). Lower the butcher block on to the top of the cabinet carefully. Center it so the countertop fits correctly and has the proper overhang.

    • 5). Crouch beneath the cabinet and have another person firmly hold the countertop. Drill deck screws with fender washers through the scrap wood in the butcher block. The screws must be short enough so they do not puncture the butcher block. Place a screw every 6 to 8 inches.
