How to Hunt Deer by the Moon Phases
- 1). Contact your state bureau of fish and wildlife to determine your local hunting season. Hunting seasons vary from state to state, and it is important to determine when it is legal to hunt before tracking the phases of the moon. Most hunting season dates are available online via your state's fish and wildlife service.
- 2). Obtain the necessary permits for deer hunting through your local department of fish and wildlife (see Resources) to guarantee a safe, legal hunting trip.
- 3). Use an online moon phases calendar to determine the date of the next full moon. Generally, hunting by moon phases is best in the days surrounding the second full moon after the autumnal equinox. You can follow the moon phases by month at many websites (see Resources).
- 4). Go hunting on a date that falls within a few days of the second full moon after the autumnal equinox. Though many factors affect a successful hunting trip, the effects of the full moon on hunting and mating patterns provides an advantage to hunters.
