How to Cut Burlap for a Ghillie Suit
- 1). Dye the burlap to the desired colors with fabric dye before you begin cutting it into strips. Whole pieces of burlap are much easier to dye than tiny strips or pieces.
- 2). Cut approximately a half-inch from opposite ends of a piece of burlap with a pair of scissors. This will create raw edges on the burlap.
- 3). Cut into the raw edge of the burlap approximately one to three inches from the edge of the fabric to create strips. The ends of these strips will begin to fray as the burlap fibers start to fall apart.
- 4). Sew or tie the center of each burlap strip to your ghillie suit. Gently tug the burlap fibers apart to fray the fabric. The loose burlap fibers resemble natural vegetation on your ghillie suit.
- 5). Trim the edges of the burlap strips with a pair of scissors to develop the desired appearance of the suit. Cut some fibers shorter than others to give the strips uneven lengths, which will look more natural when the suit is worn.
