How to Hang a Room Divider Curtain

    • 1). Determine where and how high you will hang the curtain. With a pencil, mark the position of one end of the curtain rod on one wall. Using a measuring tape, measure the distance from the ceiling to the mark. Measure the distance from the nearest perpendicular wall to the mark. Transfer the measurements to the opposite wall and mark the position of the other end of the curtain rod. This will ensure that the curtain rod will be perpendicular to the walls to which it is attached.

    • 2). Use a stud finder to determine if your marks are located over wall-studs. If your marks are on a hollow portion of the wall, drill a hole through the mark and insert wall anchors before attaching the rod-mounting hardware. If the marks are positioned over wall studs, drill a small pilot hole through the mark that will receive the hardware-mounting screw. Place the socket-type rod holder on the wall so its central screw hole is aligned with the pilot hole or wall anchor and the open portion of the socket is pointing upward. Use a screwdriver to screw the socket onto the wall.

    • 3). Measure the distance between the walls at the level of the mounting hardware. Transfer the measurement to the closet rod. Mark the rod so it will be cut 1/4-inch shorter than the distance between the mounting hardware. Use a saw to cut the rod. Depending on the thickness of the socket, the rod may have to be trimmed to fit accurately, but it is better to cut the rod a little too long than too short. Try to hang the rod from the rod-holders and trim the rod, if necessary.

    • 4). Thread the curtains onto the rod. Place the ends of the rod into the socket mounting hardware. Evenly distribute the curtain fabric.
