Wiring a 110V Electrical Outlet
- 1). Flip the breaker switch that controls the outlet you'll be working on to the "Off" position.
- 2). Remove the outer layer of insulation from the sheathed cable. Strip 1/2 to 3/4 inch of insulation from the ends of the black and white wires with the lineman's pliers.
- 3). Attach the stripped end of the wires to the outlet. Attach the black wire to the brass screw and the white wire to the silver screw. Cut two lengths of bare wire approximately 4 inches long. Using a wire nut, connect these two jumpers to the bare ground wire coming from the sheathed cable. One jumper will connect to the green screw on the outlet. The other will attach to the green screw on the metal outlet box. Tighten all unused screw terminals on the outlet.
- 4). Carefully fold the wires into the junction box and screw the receptacle to the box. Place the faceplate over the receptacle and attach it with the screw supplied with the faceplate. Turn the circuit breaker on.
