My Kenmore Washer Won't Drain or Spin
- 1). Make sure the Kenmore washer is connected to a working, grounded power supply. Do not plug the washer into an extension cord, as the washer requires more power than an extension cord can provide.
- 2). Clear any possible obstacles from the drain hose and straighten the hose, as blockages or kinks will prevent proper drainage.
- 3). Make sure the drain hose end is not more than 96 inches off the floor, as this may cause water to flow back into the washing machine.
- 4). Allow the washer to completely finish the wash cycle before stopping the unit. There are natural pauses during wash cycles that may be mistaken for the end of the cycle, but the washer will typically resume in a few minutes.
- 5). Check the voltage on the machine. Typical supply voltage should be at least 120VAC. If the voltage is low, contact an electrician for assistance.
- 6). Lift up the shield inside the washing machine tub and look for any objects that may be preventing the washer from spinning, such as pens, makeup containers or toys. Remove any items that could be stopping the tub from moving properly.
- 7). Make sure the lid is firmly closed prior to use, as the washer will not spin if the lid is open. If the lid is shut but the washer will not spin, examine the lid switch, which is located on the inside of the lid and is responsible for the lid clicking shut into place. If the lid switch is broken, the washer will not spin even when the lid is closed. Contact a professional for assistance.
