How to Record MIDI Tracks As Audio in Cubase Sx3
- 1). Start a new project in Cubase SX3. Right-click under your audio tracks and select "Add MIDI track."
- 2). Enable recording on the MIDI track by clicking on the red record enable button. Assign the MIDI instrument you want to record from MIDI track's "out:" pull-down menu.
- 3). Press the "Transport Record" button in Cubase and begin playing your MIDI controller. You should hear what you're playing live in real-time while you record. When you're finished with your take, press the "Stop" button. Make sure your MIDI performance is exactly the way you want it as you will not be able to edit any individual notes once you record it as audio.
- 4). Set the right and left locators to the length of the MIDI file you want to record as audio. Click on "File" menu and then select "Export" and choose "Audio Mixdown." When prompted, specify where you'd like your recorded file to be saved and type the name you'd like to give the file. Also, choose the specific audio format you'd like your MIDI file to be recorded as from the pull-down menu.
- 5). Click "Save" and wait a few seconds for the file to record successfully. Click on the "File" menu again and select "Import" then choose "Audio File." Locate the file you just recorded in the previous step and click "Open." Your recorded MIDI file will now load up as an audio file in Cubase SX3. Repeat as necessary for each individual MIDI file you'd like to record as an audio file.
