How to Reglaze Epoxy for Fiberglass
- 1). Use the industrial cleaner and the paper towels to wipe down the bathtub or sink that you want to reglaze. Use the razor blade and the scraper to cut away all the caulking and sealant from the bathtub.
- 2). Scrub the tub with the steel wool and sandpaper to remove any of the existing glossy finish and create a smooth surface. Clean the fiberglass surface with paper towels and water. Make sure that you completely remove the glossy finish.
- 3). Use a cloth towel and the trisodium phosphate cleaner to wipe down the tub and prepare it for the epoxy paint.
- 4). Use the painter's tape to mask off the perimeter of the tub and use the painter's drop cloth to cover the floor around the tub.
- 5). Paint the fiberglass surface of your tub or sink with a thin coat of the epoxy paint using the sponge roller or paintbrush. Follow any specific manufacturer's instructions when applying epoxy paint.
- 6). Sand the first coat of epoxy paint very gently once it has dried. Then repeat Step 5 until the desired finish is achieved, sanding between each coat. You should not need more than two or three coats of epoxy paint.
- 7). Remove the tape once your reglazing is complete but before the epoxy paint is dry, to avoid peeling. Then let your epoxy paint cure for the amount of time specified by the manufacturer to achieve your newly reglazed epoxy fiberglass.
