How to Install Aluminum Timing Cover
- 1). Drain the radiator into the pan. Dispose of the antifreeze properly. Do not allow any to remain on the ground where animals can access it.
- 2). Remove the bolts in the fan hub using a wrench. Loosen and remove the bolts in the fan shroud followed by lifting the fan and shroud out of the engine compartment as a unit. Loosen the tensioners for the accessory belts using a wrench, then remove the belts.
- 3). Loosen and remove the four bolts securing the crankshaft pulley to the harmonic balancer using a socket. Pull off the pulley. Place the wheel puller on the harmonic balancer and turn the center shaft clockwise with a socket to pull the balancer off the nose of the crankshaft.
- 4). Loosen the hose clamps on the heater hose and the crossover hose on the water pump using a screwdriver and remove the hoses. Remove the lower radiator hose from the water pump using a screwdriver. Remove the bolts in the water pump with a socket and remove the pump.
- 5). Raise the front of the vehicle with the floor jack and place jack stands under the sub frame. Lower the vehicle onto the stands. Loosen all the bolts in the oil pan with a socket, but only remove the two front bolts that pass through the oil pan into the timing cover. Remove all the bolts in the timing chain cover using a socket and remove the cover.
- 6). Place a clean rag over the opening in the oil pan under the location of the timing cover and scrape any remaining gasket material from the engine block. Apply RTV sealant to the gasket surface of the timing cover and install the new gasket on the cover. Allow 10 minutes for the sealant to set up before installing.
- 7). Spread a thin layer of RTV sealant on the engine side of the timing cover gasket and install the timing cover. Tighten the bolts with a socket. Inspect the rubber gasket in the front of the oil pan to ensure it is place. Lift the front of the oil pan and make sure the rubber gasket fits properly into the groove in the bottom of the timing cover and insert the front bolts and loosely tighten. Start in the middle of the oil pan and tighten the bolts moving outward until all bolts are securely tightened with a socket. Lower the car.
- 8). Install the harmonic balancer and tighten the crankshaft bolt with a socket. Install the crankshaft pulley and tighten the bolts with a socket. Spread RTV on the water pump gaskets and install the water pump. Tighten the bolts with a socket.
- 9). Install the crossover, lower radiator and heater hoses on the water pump and tighten the clamps with a screwdriver. Lower the radiator fan shroud and fan as an assembly into place and insert the bolts in the fan hub and tighten with a wrench. Hold the fan shroud in place and install the bolts. Tighten with a socket.

Install the accessory belts and tighten the tensioners with a wrench. Fill the radiator with a 50/50 mix of water to antifreeze. - 11
Allow the engine to run with the radiator cap off until the thermostat opens and the fluid level goes down. Top off the radiator when this happens and install the radiator cap.
