Definition of Soft Point Bullet

106 6

Definition:

A soft point bullet is a jacketed bullet with a soft lead core, which has some of the lead exposed at the front end of the bullet.

Soft point bullets may be round nose, flat point, or pointed.

Soft point bullets are sometimes called Dum-Dum bullets, referring to 1895 ammo modification that took place at the Indian Army Arsenal at Dum-Dum (near Calcutta). The Dum-Dum modification simply removed a portion of the jacket from the tip of a FMJ bullet, creating in essence a jacketed soft point bullet.
