Mobile Discos and Saving Time

101 12
Mobile DJs certainly have a physical aspect to their job role. Carrying equipment at the start and end of each gig, including setting up and pacing away is long winded and hard work. The amount and sort of equipment being used will determine how long it takes to set up up, however there are ways to optimize this process. It really doesn't matter how large or small the system is, using good planning and knowledge can make a big difference to your overall night. I mean who likes to be stressed before playing at a gig!

Logistics

Whether you're using a suitably sized card, or van it's a good idea to spend time sorting out what goes in first and what you want to get out first of your vehicle.. Any equipment you want first pack last and vise versa. There will be spare equipment, extra leads etc that you wont definitely need, so pack those items in an area that are not going to be in the way, which will delay time. If space is limited, only pack the essential bits and try to allow room for emergency parts.

Transport items from vehicle to venue room

Heavy items such as sub base and large speakers would be easily transported if you attach a set of wheels. If you can wheel 2 speakers instead of carrying each one individually it would take a lot of time off the setup. Of course you're not going to add a set of wheels to disco light, however if you have space a trolley would be a great tool. Again, putting 4 disco lights on to a trolley instead of carrying each one individually would save you time. Of course, if you could fit everything on to one trolley, including the speakers you would save a massive amount of time, probably on average about 20 – 30 minutes! It's not just the time side of things which you have to take in to account but also the physical aspect. Speakers and decks are heavy items and if you're dressed up for a wedding you do not want to mess up your clothing, or create a sweat. No one likes to sweat before they have even started! Some DJ booths have built in decks and lighting and if this is on wheels it would be beneficial and time effective when transporting.

Pre-Rigged disco lights

If your vehicle has enough room try assembling your lighting rig before you set off on your journey. Instead of carrying and putting together a number of lights, heavy box of cables you can fully assemble your setup which will drastically reduce the amount of trips you make to and from your vehicle and venue. You need to make sure the fully loaded rig is not too heavy and can be carried safely.
