How to Troubleshoot an American Standard Furnace Model AUD100R936J1
- 1). Turn off your American Standard/Trane furnace and open the blower compartment if heat flow seems limited or the temperature is inaccurate. Take out the air filter and clean it with soapy water then rinse the filter well and allow to air-dry. Replace the filter with the arrows on the filter side inserted in the direction of airflow and close the blower compartment.
- 2). Locate the power switch on the furnace and make sure the switch is set to “On” if the furnace is not running and there is power to the home. Turn the furnace thermostat switch to “Heat” and increase the set temperature if the furnace is turned on but is not running. Wait for the furnace to automatically ignite.
- 3). Examine the burner flame if the furnace is not heating as expected or is making low rumbling sounds during use. Turn off the furnace if the pilot light appears low or yellow and let the furnace cool down. Remove the adjustment screw cap on the gas valve and rotate the adjustment screw clockwise slightly to increase the burner flame size.
- 4). Perform a system reset if the furnace's integrated control module has performed an automatic lockout mode due to power failure or overheating. Open the vents in the home and clear the space around the furnace. Then turn off the furnace power and turn the power back on again then repeat again rapidly within 30 seconds to reset the system power and restart the furnace. Contact Trane if the furnace does not power back up. Shut the furnace off while waiting for service.
- 5). Shut down the furnace power and let the furnace cool then open the blower compartment if there is a squealing or whining noise during use. Clean away any dust and lint from the blower wheel and motor with a long-handled brush and around the burner orifice, but not the orifice itself. Shut the blower compartment door and restore power to the furnace.
