    • 1). Find a laboratory. Special labs can test for dioxin in food and water. This testing cannot be done at the hospital so it best to do research over the Internet and locate specialized labs that test for dioxins. Consulting your physician can also help to find nearby labs.

    • 2). Collect samples of air, water and soil. Laboratory testing for dioxin will analyze materials from food, air, water and soil in order to determine pollution levels. Samples are collected in small containers and placed on matrix to determine the amount of dioxin found in each sample.

    • 3). Analyze results. The results from testing all samples are then analyzed and reported. The detection limits are reported, which is the minimum amount of dioxin needed in order to be detected in the sample. Then the standard research criteria is reported based on the lab doing the analysis, including upper and lower limits of the sample. This allows scientists to determine how significant the amount of dioxin found can cause harm to the body.
