Dell Precision 4500 User Guide
- The supplied 6- or 9-cell rechargeable lithium-ion battery and 130-watt AC adapter must be plugged into the back of the computer, with the other end of the adapter inserted in an electrical outlet. The computer can then be turned on by pressing the power button, which is located to the upper right side of the M4500's keyboard. If you want to use a computer mouse or external keyboard with the laptop, you can connect them using any of the four provided USB ports.
- Besides the AC adapter connector and USB ports, the Dell Precision M4500 has an RJ-45 port for plugging in an Ethernet cable for wired access to the Internet. However, you can choose to go wireless since the laptop PC has a built-in Wi-Fi card from Dell or semiconductor company Intel Corp., as well as Bluetooth 2.1 technology. Also included are a Video Graphics Array and DisplayPort for connecting an external monitor, thus enabling you to use up to three displays for increased productivity.
- The Dell Precision M4500 has a one-gigabyte Nvida Quadro FX 880M or 1800M graphics processing unit for its video and graphics capabilities. However, you can upgrade the GPU – as well as the wireless network card – using the Peripheral Component Interconnect Express port on the motherboard. Also on the motherboard are two small outline dual in-line memory module slots, which contain the computer's random-access memory and can be expanded up to 16GB. External expansion slots include a PC card slot and ExpressCard slot for attaching components such as TV tuner cards and hard disks. The expansion ports are particularly crucial if you need more powerful components to handle your tasks or enhance the overall computing experience.
- For entertainment, you can watch DVDs and Blu-ray discs, as well as listen to CDs, using the Dell Precision M4500's optical drive, which is located at the right side of the computer. The optical drive can also record CDs and DVDs. Also included is an eight-in-one slot for using flash memory card brands such as Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard and Memory Stick.
