Ceramic products add texture and style to your home. The ceramics come in a wide range of colors and designs, making it relatively easy to find colors that fit the style of your room. Use ceramic tiles in the kitchen, living room, bedroom or even bathroom. The way you arrange the pieces together creates an interesting effect that blends different colors. Ceramic wall art ideas include ways to make a new piece of art for your home.

    Ceramic and Glass

    • Combine ceramic pieces with one large glass piece to create a new mirror for the room. The first step is to hang the mirror. Opt for a plain piece of glass, rather than a framed mirror. If you have a mirror in an elaborate frame or a broken frame, just remove the frame before attaching it to the wall. Surround the glass piece with different colors of ceramic pieces, using either tiles or small ceramic pieces. For a textured effect, use raised or three-dimensional ceramic pieces. For example, use round ceramic pieces that are slightly raised, and surround those around the mirror. The ceramic works as a frame for the mirror but also makes the piece look more three-dimensional.

    A Mosaic

    • Mosaics are essentially pieces of broken glass or ceramic pieces attached to a flat surface, such as a wall, cabinet or table. Pick ceramic tiles in shades or colors that match the other pieces of art or furniture in the room. Break the tiles into different size pieces before hanging them on the wall. Use a thin layer of grout or glue on the wall, and lightly press the pieces into the adhesive. Apply a second layer or adhesive to the tops of the broken pieces, and wipe off any excess.

    Painted Murals

    • Painted murals are made from individual ceramic tiles. The tiles are arranged on a flat surface and the design painted on the fronts. Once the paint dries, you adhere the tiles to the wall. Neutral colored tiles placed around the edges serve as a border or frame for the design. If you're artistic, buy plain tiles and make your own, rather than buying the tiles already painted. Adhere the tiles to the wall, and wipe away any tile dust. Paint over the tiles with paint made for use on ceramics. As your final step, add tiles of a darker or lighter shade to the top, bottom and sides of the mural.
