How to Retrofit a Camping Trailer

    • 1). Remove all of the interior fixtures from the camper. Take out the cupboard, appliances and furniture, and decide what can be restored and what needs to be replaced. With the interior of the camper stripped, inspect the camper and look for leaks, mold or rust that may be forming inside the trailer. Treat this as needed.

    • 2). Restore and refinish the cabinets by stripping the old stain off them and re-staining them. Replace the hinges and handles with the same type that were originally installed.

    • 3). Contact the manufacturer of the trailer and see what original replacement parts may exist for your camper. Purchase the items you cannot restore yourself. If the manufacturer is no longer in business or does not have the parts that you are looking for, there are other sources to search, including swap meets or specialty shops.

    • 4). Install new flooring or carpeting to match what was originally installed in your camper. Start to replace all the items you have removed and restored. Once done, your camper will look as good as it did when it was first built.
