How do I Install a 4L60E Torque Converter?
- 1). Slide the new torque converter onto the transmission input shaft. Rotate the converter back and forth as you push it further down the shaft. You will hear three clicks as the converter engages the inner lockup shaft, outer input shaft, and front pump.
- 2). Secure the transmission against the engine, making sure the bellhousing bolt holes line up with the holes in the engine block. Install and torque the bellhousing to engine block bolts to 23 foot pounds. Install and torque the three converter to flywheel bolts to 46 foot pounds. Install the bellhousing dust cover.
- 3). Attach the transmission cooler fluid lines (if applicable) using a quick connect tool or open end wrench.
- 4). Install and torque the transmission to crossmember bolts and transmission to rear mount bolts to 32 foot pounds.
- 5). Add nine quarts of fresh transmission fluid via the transmission dipstick. The new torque converter is now ready to run.
- 6). Start the engine and check for leaks or malfunctions.
