    • 1). Make five chain stitches. Join them together to form a circle; this will be the center of your square.

    • 2). Chain three, which counts as your first double crochet stitch. Make two more double crochets in the center of the circle, then chain two. Make three double crochets and two chain stitches and repeat this two more times for a total of clusters of double crochet stitches and four chain-two spaces. Join the last stitch to the first with a slip stitch.

    • 3). Slip stitch in the first few double crochets and the first chain-two space. Chain three (counts as a double crochet), make two double crochets, two chains, and three more double crochets all in the first chain-two space of the round to form the corner of the square. Chain one and make another set of corner stitches in the next chain-two space; repeat this pattern around, joining the last stitch to the first with a slip stitch.

    • 4). Slip stitch in the first few stitches until you come to the first chain-one space. Chain three, which counts as a double crochet, and make two more double crochets in this spot. Chain one and make a set of corner stitches in the next chain-two space; chain one and make three double crochets in the next chain-one space. Repeat this pattern around and join with a slip stitch at the end of the round.

    • 5). Repeat step four until your square is as large as you want it to be. After your final slip stitch, cut the working yarn, leaving a 4-inch tail, and weave in all loose ends using a large eye blunt needle.
