How to Get a Certificate for Professional Piercing
- 1). Take a course in the art of body piercing. You can find this type of course online and through instructional videos from body art and piercing professionals. Some states require professional instruction in order to receive certification for professional piercing.
- 2). Receive certification in CPR and basic first aid training. Your local Red Cross offers these classes or some hospitals offer nonprofessionals training in these areas.
- 3). Complete a bloodborne pathogen training class. Contact your local health department for a listing of approved courses in your city. This class stresses the importance of safety and sterilization of instruments, to name a few important items related to piercing.
- 4). Apply for an apprenticeship with a professional piercer. Professionally operated body art shops are the best place to find these professionals. You can contact the Association of Professional Piercers for recommendations in your city.
- 5). Apply for your certification for professional piercing with the Association of Professional Piercers. Concentrate on your training for several months before applying for certification from the APP. Some states require you to apply for certification with the state as well.
