How to Schedule Routine Backups with XP
- 1). Select "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories" and finally "Backup." The backup utility dialog box will open. Select "Next" to begin.
- 2). Select "Back up files and settings" then select "Next." You will be presented with a series of radio button options.
- 3). Decide which files you want to back up and select the appropriate radio button. Select "Next."
- 4). Choose where your backup files will be stored. The best choice for a storage location is an external drive, memory device or a separate partition on your hard drive. Select "Next." You will be presented with a dialog box that gives you the option to "Finish" your backup. Selecting this option will create a manual backup but will not establish a scheduled backup.
- 5). Select "Advanced" and then "Next." The "When to backup page" will open. Select "Later" and then "Set Schedule." A scheduling dialog box will open.
- 6). Define when you want your computer to automatically back up your files and select "OK." Your computer will back up your selected files immediately and then again at the scheduled time on a daily or weekly basis according to your settings.
