Even though it seems like a luxury, during a disaster while waiting out whatever the circumstances are, you are going to be stressed and bored.
Your family with you will relax better if that are some things to do especially if you have smaller children.
There are very simple ways of keeping entertained to look into.
Have a small pile of books that you could read to yourself or even to your kids during disaster.
This won't take electricity to run and will fit into a small bookshelf just for the right time.
This will keep the mind active and busy.
Get some board games.
Have these on hand to play with your kids.
Consider keeping one or two that you have never played before away with your disaster supplies.
Have a battery powered music player that can play favorite songs or even audio books that will help keep everyone less focused on the stressful situation.
Take some of your simple survival skills and teach your kids how to do these things.
They might find it interesting how you are doing similar things to normal but in a different way.
Keep crafts, finger paints, cut out material, and anything else you can think of that only requires some light to have activities to do.
You can take this a step further and actually plan a few activities beforehand.
