    • 1). Look at the underside of either the laptop or the current power adapter you have for your laptop. Identify the voltage output labeled on the device, often displayed as the "DC Rating" (direct current rating) on the laptop itself. Write down the battery voltage that your laptop needs (e.g. 14.4 V, 19V, etc).

    • 2). Check to see if the manufacturer of the laptop sells replacement parts directly. Open your Internet browser and go to the manufacturer's website. Click on the "Product support" section of the site. Look for a "replacement parts," "parts and upgrades" or a similarly named section of the site. Type the model number of your laptop in the site's search box or click the model in the list of supported products. Review the list of replacement parts and click on the power adapter, if available. Add the product to your online shopping cart and make the purchase.

    • 3). Go to an online retailer of computer supplies and replacement parts, such as Tiger Direct, Mundo Corp or Newegg. Locate the product search box on the site. Type in the voltage amount you need, plus "power adapter." For example, if your laptop requires a 19-volt power adapter, type in "19V power adapter" in the search box and press "Enter" on your keyboard. Or, click on the "Laptop accessories" section of the site and the "AC adapters" sub-section. Review the products listed. Add one of the power adapters listed with the correct voltage to your online shopping cart. Order the product and pay for the adapter.
