How to Decorate and Store in Small Master Bathrooms

    • 1). Change the existing lighting fixtures in your bathroom, especially if the bathroom came with cheap fluorescent lights. Replace the lights with wider or larger fixtures that sit flat with the surrounding ceiling. Lower hanging lights make the room feel smaller.

    • 2). Add an étagère above the toilet in the bathroom. An étagère consists of multiple shelves or a combination of shelves and cabinets. The shelf makes use of wasted space in your bathroom and provides much needed storage.

    • 3). Hang several mirrors in your bathroom, such as one mirror over the vanity and a second mirror facing the bathroom window. Alternatively, hang a series of smaller windows along one wall. The mirrors catch the natural light from the windows and reflect it around the bathroom, making the space feel larger.

    • 4). Clean the bathroom and reduce the amount of clutter. Stash items underneath the sink or on the shelves of the étagère. The more clutter that you have spaced around the room, the less available space you have and the smaller the room looks.

    • 5). Paint the walls in the bathroom in a light paint color, such as pale yellow or light green. After the paint dries, paint the baseboards and window frames in a lighter cream color. The light shades accent the room and make it feel bigger, while darker colors drag down the room.
