A cardiology program trains you to diagnose cardiovascular ailments by examining a patient's medical history and condition and running diagnostic examinations. Cardiology programs also offer opportunities to participate in research and learn more about specific diseases and developing new treatment options.

In addition to clinical training requirements, you must be involved in training opportunities with medical students and residents.

    • Michigan State University's Cardiovascular Disease Program educates fellows through clinical, research and education training. You learn the latest procedures, treatments and techniques and are given opportunities to examine patients, identify cardiovascular issues, interpret laboratory results and execute treatment plans. Clinical training allows you to focus in pediatrics, transplant, cardiac catheterization, echocardiography or cardiovascular imaging.

    Boston University Medical Center

    • The cardiology fellowship program at Boston University combines clinical and research training. You work with patients through the VA Boston Healthcare System and Boston Medical Center. The program offers six months of intensive training involving patients with acute cardiovascular diseases and one-month clinical rotations in catheterization, echocardiography, arrhythmia, peripheral vascular disease, preventative cardiology and cardiology imaging.
