How to Fix a Trunk Lock
- 1). Visit your local dealership's parts department and buy a replacement cylinder. Alternatively, visit your local auto parts store, such as Pep Boys, and purchase the new lock. Ask the salesperson any questions that you may have about installation.
- 2). Open the trunk of your car and find the lock assembly. This is usually located on the underside of the hood of the trunk.
- 3). Remove the plastic clip that holds the lock to the metal linkage that leads to the lock.
- 4). Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the angled section of the clip that fastens the lock to the trunk. Use a hammer or rubber mallet to wedge the head of the screwdriver and pop out the lock assembly from the car.
- 5). Remove the assembly.
- 6). Insert the replacement lock and place the clip to wedge it into place. This will secure the lock against the trunk. Insert your key into the new lock to make sure that it works.
