Do Low Calorie Diets Really Lead to Longer Life?

In recent years, there's been a lot of buzz in the news about the low calorie diet.
While this form of diet has always existed for the sake of losing weight and looking fit, a new theory has emerged and picked up steam during the course of the last decade.
The low calorie diet is said to somehow increase life span.
Not only is this a claim, but studies have been performed that may very well back this theory up.
The logic behind this train of thought is that when the body is reduced to a near starving point, something known as resveratrol kicks in and takes hold of the body.
This substance, which is also found naturally in red wine, is said to slow the aging process.
As a result, they say that those of us who live on lower calorie diets genuinely have the ability to increase our life span.
How much this may increase it by is still up in the air, but lab rats were known to live by as much as 50% longer than usual.
These increases are remarkable and mind blowing when compared to the usual increases that certain treatments may result in.
This may all very well come down to that natural instinct that seems to kick in during times of desperation.
Perhaps the resveratrol reaction is nothing more than our body's way of fighting back during times of need.
Whatever the case may be, such a diet should really only be performed with the advice of a medical professional if it's something that appeals to you.
Doing so without the endorsement of your doctor, and doing it without the proper nutrition (all low calorie diets of the sort absolutely must be packed with the vital nutrients), could put your body at risk.
