1

Turn your computer off flip it over and remove the battery. The battery will have a sliding latch so you won't need any tools for this. Simply pull the latch back and remove the battery. Also make sure to turn off your machine and unplug it before you start working on it.
2

Find the memory panel. There will be two panels on the bottom of your laptop. One will be for memory and the other for the hard drive. The memory usually will be the smaller panel. Loosen the screws and set aside.
3

Ground yourself by touching a piece of metal to make sure that you remove any static electricity from your body. If you get up and walk around before finishing the job make sure to ground yourself again.
4

Remove the memory panel from the laptop. This will expose the memory chips. Press sideways on the retaining clips of the chips to make them pop out. Remove them and set them aside.
5

Install the new memory by sliding the chips in at an angle and gently pushing them into the slots. You should hear them click. Once they are set, replace the panel and the screws. Plug in your machine, replace the battery and start your machine up. Depending on your operating system, your machine may or may not do a RAM count. If it does you will see the new memory at the start up. If it doesn't you will need to go to the "Start Menu," then to the "Control Panel" and "System" and you will see the memory there.
