A Decorative Fix to Space Behind the Toilet
- A large basket on the top of the toilet tank acts as a seasonal display. For Christmas, place metallic ornaments in the basket with sprigs of evergreen. For a New Year's party, use a couple of lotions or body gels in champagne-shaped bottles. For Valentine's Day, drape the basket with pink fabric sporting tiny hearts and some heart-shaped soaps. For a St. Patrick's Day display basket, place green shamrocks inside it.
- Install several floating glass shelves above the toilet tank. Use the bottom shelf to hold small items, such as decorative containers of cotton balls, safety pins, hair clasps or cotton swabs. Decorative containers include metal boxes, glass bowls or a whimsical collection of teacups. Upper shelves are used to display a collection of perfumes or colognes, a small faux floral display or even a tiny air plant in a festive container.
- Try hanging a towel or magazine rack behind the toilet. This allows the space to be hidden, as both a towel and magazine rack cover the space, yet provide a practical function in the room. Decorative towels are used for seasonal decorations or to coordinate with a theme in the bathroom. For the magazine rack, try a variety of magazines to provide alternate reading material that suits everyone's tastes.
- Design a vignette behind the toilet. A large mirror on the back of the toilet reflects the glow of a candle or an arrangement of faux flowers. Art pieces hung behind the toilet draw the eye up as visitors enter, creating a focal point in the room. A Victorian pitcher in its bowl sets the stage for a Victorian bathroom design, while a collection of roosters gives the appearance of a country room.
