How to Make Whitewash
- 1). Mix 5 pounds of hydrated lime with 3 ounces of potash aluminum, 1 quart of molasses, and 2 gallons of water. Create a second mixture containing 5 pounds of salt and 2 gallons of water. Stir both mixtures for a few minutes before allowing them to sit overnight.
- 2). Pour out excess water from the hydrated lime mixture. Add salt water into the hydrated lime mixture; this should result in a very thick liquid mixture. Add small amounts of water as needed to thin the mixture to your liking.
- 3). Test the mixture by applying it to a small section of what you are planning to whitewash, or a small piece of cardboard, and observe it after it dries.
