    • 1). Have the person you are making a mold of lie down on his back, preferably on a counter top that is high enough for you to work comfortably. If that isn't possible, have him lie down on the floor. Make him as comfortable as possible because he will need to lie still in this position for about an hour. Place a pillow under his neck and ask him to close his eyes.

    • 2). Cover his face, including the eyelids and eyebrows, with a layer of petroleum jelly.

    • 3). Cut two 1-inch pieces of a plastic drinking straw with scissors. Stick one piece inside each nostril so half is sticking out.

    • 4). Rip 50 sheets of newspaper into 1-inch-wide strips.

    • 5). Dip a strip of newspaper in the wheat paste. You can make your own wheat paste, also called paper mache paste, using one of the recipes in the References section or you can buy it in a craft supply store. Slide your fingers along the length of the newspaper strip to remove any excess paste.

    • 6). Place the newspaper strip anywhere on the face and smooth it out. If the strip is too long to fit on the face, tear off the excess. Continue adding strips of newspaper, overlapping as you go. Cover the entire face and let it dry for about an hour.

    • 7). Remove the paper mache mask carefully when it is bone dry.

    • 8). Cover the eye and nostril holes on the mask with masking tape on the outside of the mask and place it on a table with the outside facing down.

    • 9). Mix a batch of plaster of Paris in a small bucket, following the directions on the package. Use a disposable spoon to mix the plaster.

Pour plaster of Paris into the mask and let it dry completely overnight. Remove the plaster mold from the mask.
