How to Strip Adhesive Off of a Concrete Floor

    • 1). Boil water in a pot that you can easily carry. Slowly pour it over a section of the concrete floor to thoroughly saturate the adhesive. Allow the water to soak the area for 5 to 10 minutes to soften it.

    • 2). Strip the softened glue with a long-handled scraper. If it cannot be lifted with the tool alone, proceed with a chemical solution. Otherwise, use the scraper to gradually work off the residue.

    • 3). Put on solvent-resistant gloves. Read the product label on a can of liquid adhesive remover for proper application. Ventilate the room and wait the recommended time for the solvent to further dissolve the adhesive.

    • 4). Continue to scrape the treated adhesive, which should now come loose with considerable ease. A second application of the remover may be required if it has evaporated during the process.

    • 5). Sweep aside the dried adhesive shreds using a push broom. Dispose of them in a garbage bag to clear the floor.

    • 6). Clean the concrete floor with a mop soaked in a soapy solution or mild detergent. Leave the surface to air-dry overnight before installing new flooring material.
