How to Make the Dining Table Look Glossy

    • 1). Sand the table to remove any sharp spots. Sand the table lightly; it isn't necessary to do a complete sanding if the table has been sanded and painted prior to this project. Wipe the table clean with a soft cloth.

    • 2). Brush the clear varnish on to the table using wide strokes and thin coats of the finish. Don't oversaturate the table, which could cause unwanted marks or bumps on the finish once it's dry. Allow the table to dry completely.

    • 3). Sand the table once again, gently, just in case there are any bumps or rough spots in the finish. Rub the table with the soft cloth.

    • 4). Add another layer of the clear polyurethane varnish to provide a second coat of glossiness to the table. Allow the table to dry for at least 2 days -- several days if you have the time.
