How to Replace a Dryer Door Switch
- 1). Unplug the dryer cord from the dryer electrical outlet. Move the dryer away from the back wall 1 foot to allow the control console to sit back after you release it from the top panel.
- 2). Remove the two retaining screws that secure the control console to the top of the dryer with a Phillips-head screwdriver. There is one screw on each end of the control console. Grab the front of the control console and flip it back toward the wall. The control console will rest on hinges.
- 3). Use the Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the three retaining screws securing the rear top of the dryer to the cabinet. The screws are directly under the base of the control console. Slide the top toward you to release the front clips and remove the top from the dryer.
- 4). Open the dryer door and remove the two screws that secure the door switch with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Reach inside the dryer from the top and pull the door switch wiring connector off of the door switch. Pull the door switch out of the dryer.
- 5). Place the new door switch inside the cabinet and push the wiring connector together until the plastic tabs lock into place. Hold the back of the switch with one hand while attaching the retaining screws with the other. Tighten the screws down using a Phillips-head screwdriver.
- 6). Place the top panel back over the dryer and push down on the front of the top panel to engage the retaining clips. Secure the rear of the top panel using the retaining screws. Flip the control console back over and secure it to the top panel with the two end screws. Push the dryer back against the wall and plug the power cord back into the dryer electrical outlet.
- 1). Unplug the dryer from the wall outlet and pull it away from the wall so that you can work behind the dryer. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws that secure the back of the top cover to the rear panel. Lift the back of the top cover and slide it toward you to remove it from the dryer.
- 2). Open up the dryer door and remove the two screws that attach the dryer switch to the dryer. Reach inside the top of the dryer and remove the two wire leads that are connected to the door switch terminal. Grab the leads with your fingers to remove them.
- 3). Pull the defective door switch out of the dryer and place the new switch inside. Connect the wires to the switch by slipping them over the door switch terminals. Secure the door switch to the dryer using the retaining screws. Close the dryer door after installing the door switch.
- 4). Set the dryer top panel back over the dryer and secure it using the retaining screws. Push the dryer back against the wall and plug the dryer back into the wall outlet.
