How to Move a Clothes Dryer
- 1). Disconnect the dryer from the utilities. For an electric dryer, you can simply unplug it. For a gas dryer, have a technician disconnect it and cap off the gas.
- 2). Tape electrical cords or gas lines to the back of the dryer with duct table. This will keep them out of the way and safe from harm during the move.
- 3). Clean the lint screen and wipe off the exterior of the dryer.
- 4). Secure the dryer door. Avoid using tape, as this could leave a sticky residue on the dryer's finish. Instead, use shrink-wrap around the dryer, or tear a long strip from an old sheet, and tie it around the dryer to hold the door in place.
- 5). Wrap a moving blanket, bubble wrap or cardboard around the dryer to prevent scratching during the move.
- 6). Use an appliance dolly to transport the dryer to the vehicle. Fit the dolly under the dryer, and secure the dryer with the dolly straps.
