    Light On Plants

    • Light is a necessary component for healthy plants. You can test the truth of that statement while examining the level of significance of light. Use disposable cups and plant six tomato plants. Place two of these plants in an area around your home where they can receive direct sunlight during the day. Place two inside but near a window, so their light is indirect. Place the last two in a closet where they will receive no light at all. Measure their growth from week to week and examine your results.

    Cinnamon Mold Inhibitor

    • Ancient cultures believed that certain spices held mold inhibiting effects. You can test this old theory by examining the mold growth effects with specific spices added. Use four clear plastic cups and place five teaspoons of applesauce in each cup. Mark the cups with a number so you can identify them later. Sprinkle cinnamon over one of the cups. Stir in a quarter of a teaspoon of cinnamon to another cup and a half teaspoon to another. Leave the last cup without cinnamon, to act as your control. Place the cups together in a dark area where they are safe and will not be tampered with throughout your experiment, says the Education website. Examine your cups after a week to determine the mold growth in each.

    Pollution Effects

    • You have likely heard about the dangers of pollution on plant life. You can test this theory in your own home. Use eight disposable cups and fill each with soil. Mark the cups with numbers so you can identify them later. Mix in a cup of motor oil into the soil of two of the cups, vinegar into two, coffee grounds into two and nothing in the last two. Plant tomato seeds into each of the samples. Store them in a safe place where they will receive sunlight throughout your experiment. Measure your plant growth every week to identify the severity of growth hindrance from each substance.

    Memory

    • The effects of music on memory is often at question. You can test the effects music plays on a person's memory. Gather volunteers and divide them into three groups. Place them into small rooms. Give each group 15 minutes to study a list of 30 randomly determined words. Group one reviews the list with no music. Have group two listen to classical music while they review the list and attempt to reproduce it. Instruct group three to review their list for 15 minutes and reproduce it while listening to pop music. Base their success on their number of correct answers.
