The better informed we are about our anxiety disorder, the easier it would be to overcome it.
And to fully appreciate and understand this condition, we must keep our minds clear of any worry or concerns.
We have to know that anxious feelings are very normal and even have some advantages for us in our everyday lives and are not the source of anxiety attacks.
Our anxiety only becomes a problem when it begins to disrupt and unsettle our regular life activities; when relationships, careers, and social life begin to suffer as a result of our worrying.
An anxiety attack occurs when our fears and apprehensions become irrational and inordinate bearing little relation to the event or situation supposedly causing it.
What are the actual causes of anxiety attacks, you may ask? Actually, it is very difficult to pinpoint the cause o anxiety attacks, as each case is peculiar to itself and different from others.
But the common factors include genetic predisposition, substance abuse, environmental conditioning, and medical factors.
Often, it is a complex combination of two or more of these factors.
Whatever the cause, an attack may be triggered by an event or situation which we are unaware of or maybe as a result of a long harmful habit.
Statistics show that about half of the Americans availing themselves of mental health services for the treatment of anxiety related problems suffer as result of alcohol or drug dependence.
The anxiety attacks emanate from either.
• The abuse of or addiction to harmful substances and drugs such as amphetamines, cocaine, or nicotine or.
• The after effects of withdrawal from illegal drugs or even from medications like benzodiazepines, barbiturates, or vicoclin.
Sometimes, people are born naturally more prone to anxiety attacks than others; in this case, there is usually a long family history of struggle with this disorder.
Simple ways of preventing these attacks include: • Keeping the consumption of caffeine, cola, and chocolate to a minimum • Regularly exercising • Eating wholesome foods • Adequate Resting • Immediately treating any traumatic experiences, seeking expert advice.
The underlying factors causing anxiety or anxiety attacks may be well unknown to us.
