How to Set Up a Wireless Desktop Card
- 1). Acquire a wireless router and PCI adapter to connect your desktop computer to a wireless network.
- 2). Click on the "Start" menu and select "Shut Down" to power off the desktop. Loosen the screws holding the computer's back case with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull off the cover.
- 3). Examine the rectangular openings in the computer's motherboard, which is where the PCI card will be installed. Find an available opening. Detach any unused devices from the slots, if necessary, to make space for the card. Remove the metal plate from the slot's opening with a flat-head screwdriver. Slide the card into the space and push the metal plate back into place.
- 4). Plug in the wireless router into an electrical outlet and press the "on" button. Screw the cable into the correct outlet on the router. Look at the front of the router to make sure all the lights are on.
- 5). Slide the CD that came with the PCI card into the computer's disc drive. The software will install the wireless card drive on the desktop. Thoroughly follow the directions that pop up on the screen.
