Trailer Homes VS Motor Homes: Is There Any Difference?

101 5
Spring or summer is the time to let go of the seclusion of our busy life and have a brief grand vacation. Families bond together for a short-term holiday and what better way to enjoy it together than owning or renting on that special occasion an RV or Recreational Vehicle. RV's occupy most of the State's major roads during these two seasons. You'd see them crowding the busy highways. What is most enjoyable with riding one is that you're never away from home, the vehicle is equipped with modern facilities that a regular home can offer and you get to travel with it to your planned destinations. But if you're a first timer, there's a standing perplexity between a Motorhome and a Trailer. Some would call it the same while others would use the terms one after the other. What is the difference between the two? Let me enumerate a few differences that may altogether separate one from the other.

What Are The Characteristics Of A Trailer

First of all, Trailers were fabricated so people can dwell on it and have the option of living on it permanently. It needs an engine-powered truck to tow the trailer and reinforced by a hitch, also called a fifth wheel coupling, in the center of the truck bed. It has to be towed by a bigger truck with a bumper to bear the bulk of the trailer. There are different kinds of Trailers; Travel Trailer, Teardrop Trailer – usually resembles a teardrop, Hybrid Trailer and The Fifth-Wheel Trailer.

Generally, trailers cost less than motor homes in terms of depreciation value. However, one drawback of a trailer is the length of it and the tow vehicle combined so the tendency of the passenger is to stop the vehicle and go over to the trailer. Other than that, it is an amazing vehicle.

What Is A Motor Home?

The similarity between a trailer and a motor home is that it has both the living accommodations of a home but the difference is that the motor home is powered by its own engine while the trailer has to be towed by a truck. Take note, it can be powered by gasoline or diesel but still, it varies between the makers. There are different classes of motor homes; there's the Class A – the bus type and fabricated on a commercial chassis, considered the most luxurious; Class B – using a regular van with an elevated top, low-priced compared to Class A but can be lavish too; and Class C – the least among the three considering that it is built on a truck chassis with an attached cab.

The motor home has the virtual living space enclosed in one structure. While it's being driven, passengers can enjoy the joys of a motor home while relaxing en route. The motor home entails the option of towing a small sedan for unforeseen errands at the destination. The disadvantage of a motor home  -- depending on your perspective – is that it is more expensive than a travel trailer. Depreciation, more value-oriented Class A units, and the ever changing market can be your deterrent in buying a luxurious motor home.

Although rising gas prices may be expensive, there are great deals on the modes of transportations in the market today. Given your options above, what would you choose?
