The Installation of a Multi Unit Satellite Dish

    • 1). Mount the dish. Climb up on the roof and look for a view of the southern sky that is unimpeded by trees or power lines. Put the dish together according to the schematics in the box, but leave the LNB (the plastic receiver on the end of the dish) off. Run two coaxial cables down the arm of the dish, and connect the coaxial ends to the outputs of the LNB. Insert the pins from the center of the wire into the port, then secure them in place by twisting the ends of the wire until tight. Drill four holes in your roof through the base of the dish, then secure the dish in place with the included screws.

    • 2). Install the splitter. On the ground close to a gutter and where you installed the dish, drill holes through the mounting holes on the splitter and secure it in place with the included screws.

    • 3). Drop the wires. Drop the wires down a nearby gutter, and tuck them behind the gutter. Secure them in place with your zip ties. Connect both wires to the inputs on the splitter. These will be labeled "Input" or "Satellite in".

    • 4). Determine where you want to install your satellite connections. Then trace a path from your television to an outside wall that is as close as possible to your satellite splitter. Using your masonry bit, drill a hole near the baseboard. Drill until you reach the outside. Note: You will need two wires for each DVR so drill two holes if necessary.

    • 5). Run the wires. Connect a wire to the output on the satellite splitter, then run it to your television, shoving the wire through the hole. Connect the wire to the satellite in port on the back of your receiver. Repeat for any remaining televisions. Secure the wires to your baseboard by pushing a nail over top of the wire and hammering it in place. Then caulk the wire holes to seal them from the outside, making sure to completely cover both sides of the holes. Allow to dry for an hour.

    • 6). Connect your satellite receiver to your television. There are many ways to do this, however most satellite companies will include a set of basic RCA cables (yellow/white/red) with any satellite receiver. Insert these wires into the color-coded outputs on the back of your receiver, then into the same color-coded inputs on the back of your television. Then set your television to receive the signal from these inputs; for more information on this, check your television's manual.

    • 7). Align your satellite dish. Enter the setup menu of your satellite dish, then locate your dish's transponder signals. Have an assistant up on the roof to move your dish around while you check the transponder signal strength. There will be at least 32 of them, and each of them need to be over 70 to ensure a good signal. Note: If Transponders 1 and 2 are over 80, chances are the rest will be strong enough.

    • 8). Activate your receivers. Call your satellite company to get this done; you will need the numbers off the access cards on your receivers. These are usually in a slot on the front or rear of the box.
