Efficiency Apartment Ideas
- Storage space is limited in just about any home, but especially so in an efficiency apartment. Utilize furniture pieces and shelving for as much storage as possible. Purchase furniture that can serve more than one purpose -- such as an ottoman that has a hidden area for storing blankets, books or movies. Look for desks, coffee tables and other furniture pieces that contain multiple storage options. Purchase a sofa bed so you do not have to have two pieces of furniture for sitting and sleeping.
- Since the efficiency apartment contains the entire living space in one room, you will obviously have bedroom and bath items integrated. Find ways to hide blankets, pillows, towels and beauty products, such as corner shelving units, storage tubs that fit under furniture and laundry bags.
- There are some items that you would normally buy furniture with, but in an efficiency there is no room. For example, a television will usually be placed on a stand or in an entertainment center. Maximize space by purchasing a flat-screen TV that can be mounted to the wall, thus eliminating the need for one piece of furniture.
- Though an efficiency is a one-room apartment that contains a living space, you can still divide it up to give yourself a little privacy when you have visitors. Purchase screens to divide your bed from the living area or hang curtains from the ceiling to divide off a little space. Purchase a room divider that has shelving on both sides so you can store items or use it for decorating.
- The brighter a studio apartment is, the larger it will appear. Mount mirrors on the walls to reflect light and make the apartment seem larger than it actually is. Keep drapes open at all times to allow as much natural light in and use light fixtures throughout the apartment at night.
