How Do I Make Dust Covers for Electronic Equipment?

    • 1). Measure the dimensions of the piece of electronic equipment. Measure the length, width and height.

    • 2). Cut pieces from the vinyl that are at least 2 inches larger than the actual dimensions. This creates the space for seam allowance.

    • 3). Cut one piece that will cover the top and four pieces that will cover the sides. For example, to cover something like a VCR unit you will need one large square for the top and four pieces that will be sewed to each side of the top piece. Place the pieces together with the wrong sides facing out when they are sewed.

    • 4). Turn up a hem edge of ¼ to ½ inch on all the raw edges around the bottom of the cover. Sew a straight row of stitches on these edges. The finished cover should look like a box without a bottom when it's completed. The covers can be made without a front or back piece for easier access to controls. The cover can remain on the equipment while it is being used.
