    • 1). Hold up the boat motor on the back of the boat where it will be installed. Have a helper push the motor up against the back of the boat and mark the two locations where the holes are on the motor with a pencil. This is where the rods will be drilled into place.

    • 2). Attach a 1/4-inch metal drill bit to a power drill and press the drill up against the mark on the boat. Drill into the boat with the power drill. Repeat the process for the other mark on the back of the boat.

    • 3). Hold the motor up against the boat and grab the first connecting rod. The size of the connecting rod will vary depending on the type of boat you have and the size of the motor. Have a helper hold the motor in place and apply Loctite to the rod. This adhesive will help secure it in place to the motor.

    • 4). Tighten the threaded rod down into the predrilled hole by hand. Continue tightening until the rod is flush with the boat motor. Slide a nut onto the end of the rod that is in the motor and tighten it down. This will hold the connecting rod in place.

    • 5). Slide the other connecting rod through the second predrilled hole and repeat the exact same process to install it. Grip the motor by hand to ensure it is attached securely to the boat.
