How to Repair Headlight Film
- 1). Scrape any large grit or road grime off of the headlight lenses with a plastic putty knife. Rinse with a garden hose when done.
- 2). Wash lens with a clean rag soaked in water and dish soap. Use a dish soap that is made to cut through grease for best results. Rise when done.
- 3). Soak a clean rag in denatured alcohol and rub down the lens. The denatured alcohol will help to break down the yellow film and restore the headlight to a transparent state. Let lens dry for five minutes before continuing.
- 4). Soak a sheet of 1000-grit wet/dry sandpaper in a bucket of clean water. Then gently sand the headlight lens using small circular motions. This will remove any small pitting or surface scratches from the lens while also giving it a rough polish.
- 5). Apply a coat of car wax to the lens to act as a protective sealant. Follow the manufacturer's directions for proper drying and buffing times.
